Customer Support ICT Specialist
About me…
I graduated from a vocational high school in Bakar, with a focus on Nautics. After a short career as a sailor – due to workplace polytrauma – I had to switch career. I enrolled in the study of Computer Science at the Polytechnic of Rijeka, and at the end of my studies I had the opportunity to do an internship at JGL in 2014. This is where my journey at JGL began. I started as a support technician on a helpdesk system, but with effort, work, and the support JGL provided, I got to the specialist position, with a focus on supporting laboratory systems and processes. Last year I successfully completed the specialist professional graduate study of Information Science and Technology in Business Systems at the Polytechnic of Rijeka.
About my workday...
After my morning coffee with my wife, I catch up with my emails and review the essentials for the day once again. If the daily tasks and epidemiological conditions allow, we go for a short coffee as a department at work, exchanging problems and ideas related to all our workflows – with a few jokes, of course. After that, I catch up with my routines, daily tasks, planned or unplanned, I offer support to colleagues if I can be of any help. In the evening I review all my assignments for tomorrow in peace.
About work challenges...
The rigid organization principles I find to be the most challenging. By this I mean the resistance or slowness when it comes to change, and the time it takes to make change happen. I try to solve this problem by teaming up with a few people who are willing to initiate some actual change. If we manage to come up with a solution, great! If not – we move on. When there's a hierarchical structure, you often just hit a wall. Time is something we are limited by, there is work to be done for practically a 16-hour workday, but this we overcome by organizing and prioritizing well. However, the problem is again the hierarchical structure where the processes being done parallel to yours aren't aware of what all the others are doing, or how long it takes to complete a task. It is important to form a good team, a team that will do all the activities together no matter what, and then everything gets much easier.
About the team environment...
Teamwork is the best way to work! The atmosphere when a team of people gathers around a problem and when potential solutions are found very quickly is a great feeling. You come up with some ideas for improving the work in the whole process.
About motivation and interests...
My main motivation is to make the work easier for my colleagues. When we identify a problem and find a way to allow colleagues to do their job more easily, it gives me satisfaction and motivates me to go on.
About working at JGL...
Working at JGL is great, although sometimes difficult and challenging, but it's all part of the workflow. I like it best when we spontaneously get together as a team to solve a problem and start working. With a good team of people it is possible to identify a problem within a couple of hours and solve the problem quickly. I think that some changes in the organization are imminent and that this way of handling things will become more frequent.
About the desire for new knowledge...
When I find that I need or am missing something, I try to acquire new knowledge as quickly as possible so I could help out. For example, my colleagues and I recently got certified for Computer System Validation for Cloud and COTS Applications via the Validation Service - ProPharma Group organization, all in order to achieve better cooperation with my colleagues, which is getting better and better each day.
About my hobbies...
I like to do photography and capture moments that are fleeting. I look forward to returning soon to my favourite hobby, which is Kettlebell and Olympic weightlifting, which I neglected due to classes and COVID. Due to a spinal injury, this combination of training has proved to be the best fit for me.
About success and satisfaction...
It's maybe a little cliché, but my greatest success and greatest pleasure is my daughter Miriam. She is my wife and mine’s greatest success. I am only an additional nuisance in the picture, but it brings me pleasure and joy to see each smile and each new step she takes in life.
