As a part of celebration of the World Blood Donor Day on 14 June, JGL will use one of its trademarks and recognizable symbols, the JGL drop, in the context of blood donation for the second year in a row.
The national campaign of voluntary blood donation will be organized with the support of the Red Cross and the Department of Transfusion Medicine from 13 to 15 June at the following locations:
- Zagreb - Croatian Institute for Transfusion Medicine, Petrova 3 (7.30 a.m. - 7.00 p.m.)
- Split - Department of Transfusion Medicine, Firule site, Spinčićeva 1 (7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)
- Rijeka - Clinical Institute for Transfusion Medicine, Krešimirova 42 (Mon, Tue: 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Wed: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.)
- Osijek - Clinical Institute for Transfusion Medicine, Josipa Huttlera 4 (Mon: 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.; Tue: 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wed: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.)
The World Blood Donor Day is marked on 14 June every year in honour of the Nobel Prize winner Karl Landsteiner, MD, born on 14 June 1868 and credited with developing the system of determination of blood groups. The aim of this day is to raise awareness and sensitize the public to the importance of blood and blood components in the treatment of patients. It also represents an opportunity for thanking voluntary blood donors.
This year's World Blood Donor Day is celebrated under the slogan "Blood connects us all" and is focused on the gratitude to blood donors, with a special emphasis on the meaning of "sharing" and "connecting" between blood donors and those in need of blood. The slogan "Share your life, donate your blood" was also adopted with the aim to draw attention to the system of voluntary blood donation as part of encouraging the community and all people of good will to take care of each other, and as part of promoting the community's cohesion.
The aim of JGL Drop is to collect 200 blood doses and raise awareness about the importance of the social issue of blood donation. JGL has prepared a symbolic gift for all blood donors who donate blood in this period!
