Today, Mate Poropat, Director of Pharmaceutical and Technical Operations at JGL d.d., signed a Grant Agreement on behalf of JGL with the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund as part of the open call "Improving energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources in manufacturing industries” (Povećanje energetske učinkovitosti i obnovljivih izvora energije u proizvodnim industrijama).”
The Agreement, which covers four projects aimed at improving energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources, is worth a total of HRK 4,02m, and JGL has been awarded a grant of HRK 2,51m, which makes up 63% of the project’s total value.
At the signing ceremony, held at the Fund's headquarters, Poropat, who is also heading the project, thanked the Fund, which has followed JGL’s previous investments in energy efficiency improvements in manufacturing: "The Fund has recognised and supported our company’s continuous efforts to improve energy efficiency in manufacturing and general business activities. Complying with the highest standards of environmental protection is a duty of every organisation, and it is part of our company’s DNA, as it is deeply involved with community life in Rijeka.”
JGL will use the grant to carry out four projects. The first involves building a new 180 kW photovoltaic power station for its own use, on the roof of a facility at the Pharma Valley complex. By directly converting solar energy into electricity, this investment will save the company 218.000 kWh per year, and at the same time, help reduce CO2 levels by 44 tonnes per year.
The other project is related to roof repairs of the input material storage facility at the Svilno 1 site, and aimed at improving energy efficiency and maintaining on-site temperature conditions by installing new roof insulation.
The next project involves replacing the sterile solution cooler with a new, energy efficient one.
The fourth project is based on preparing hot water in the sterile and non-sterile solutions department, which will increase capacity and speed up the technological processes. The primary heating source will be a heat pump, combined with solar collectors.
The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund has awarded a total of HRK 269 million for projects led by 77 Croatian companies.
