With the aim of encouraging sustainable economic growth in the social environment, last month JGL became the proud owner of ZelEn product by HEP-Opskrba, and from now on it uses exclusively the energy produced from renewable sources on all locations in Croatia. ZelEn is a marketing coinage composed of wordsZelena Energija(Green Energy).
Renewable sources of energy are those energy sources which are completely or partially renewed in nature. This especially includes hydropower, solar, wind, biomass, biogas and geothermal energy. Market of energy produced from renewable sources - the green energy market - has been slowly established in the European Union during the last few years. The goal of the market encouraged by the EU and governments of individual member countries is to stimulate the production of energy from renewable sources so that it becomes competitive in relation to energy produced from conventional sources. This promotes the construction of new sources of renewable energy and contributes to sustainable development.
Seeing as Hrvatska elektroprivreda produces approximately a half of electric energy in hydroelectric power plants, they decided to specially valorize that energy and join the green energy market. The sale of green energy is based on the system of certificates, i.e. independent confirmation of energy production and origin. HEP has successfully certified 25 hydroelectric power plants, paying special attention to procedures and proof of power plant safety with regard to the environment, as well as to disposal of dangerous waste.
Certified production of green energy entails proof and record of the quantity of produced electric energy. The document that guarantees the origin of energy from renewable sources, issued by the German certification body TÜV SÜD Industrie Service GmbH, is called the TÜV SÜD certificate (TRU certificate). One TÜV certificate is an equivalent of 1 MWh of electric energy, confirming that 1 MWh of electric energy sold to our company by HEP was produced from renewable energy sources. The purchase of ZelEn product and payment of the first monthly invoice also gave JGL the right to use the protected ZelEn mark on its products and promotional materials.
