JGL celebrates the tenth annual Croatian Pharmacies Day

The Croatian Pharmaceutical Society and the Croatian Chamber of Pharmacists are cooperating with JGL on a public health initiative to celebrate the Croatian Pharmacies Day on 29 October for the tenth consecutive year, sponsored by the Croatian Ministry of Health.  The date marks the first mention of a pharmacy on the territory of Croatia, on 29 October 1271 in Trogir.

The entire project of celebrating the Croatian Pharmacies Day was designed to promote pharmacy as a profession and pharmacies as places which, along with dispensing drugs and other healthcare products, serve to provide expert advice on proper and rational drug use, preserving health, preventing diseases and improving the quality of life. The public health initiative also serves to emphasise the valued role the pharmaceutical profession plays in the healthcare system, improve the media and public stance on the profession, highlight the competencies and education of pharmacists and call attention to the contribution made by pharmacists in treatment, health preservation and encouraging citizens to treat their health in a responsible manner.

The topic of the Croatian Pharmacies Day tenth anniversary is "Eye health - dry eyes and allergic conjunctivitis", with the aim of providing aid for the increasing number of people, of all age groups, experiencing eye trouble caused by dry eyes and allergic conjunctivitis. The problems commonly result from daily and excessive straining of eyes when using computers and mobile phones for long periods of time, reading, writing, etc., as well as being increasingly exposed to various allergens, which leads to potential visual impairment.

The main event will be held on Saturday, 29 October, at the Cvjetni trg, where pharmacists of the Public Pharmacy Section and JGL associates will conduct a survey among citizens on the topic of dry eyes and instruct them how to assess their tear film via on-site demonstrations by ophthalmologists. The participants will also instruct citizens on the types of artificial tears and their proper use.
