A kind of finals of this year's multidisciplinary educational project "Sea is Alive", which has been implemented throughout Croatia since 2011, was held on Friday, 8 May, in the Faculty of Science hall in Zagreb.
The third year of the project was organised as a national school competition, with the older students taking a knowledge test regarding their knowledge of the Adriatic Sea, while the younger students created artistic representations on a certain topic that expresses their vision of the sea and the marine organisms.
This year, 350 students from the 5th to the 8th grade from 42 Croatian schools participated in the testing, and no less than 400 young artists (from the 1st to the 4th grade) from 31 primary schools amazed us with their work on the topic "Sea caves and life in them". Students from Rab and Omiš, with each school producing no less than five winners, were the best!
The "Sea is Alive" competition is a continuation of the extremely successful project with the same name, which in 2011, with the approval of the Ministry of Science, Education and Sport, saw the publication of a Manual for tutors, teachers and professors who participate in actions for preserving and protecting the Adriatic Sea in Croatia.
The leader and the creator of the project is the PAKS association, and the project has been held for several years already under the sponsorship of the JGL d.d. pharmaceutical company, which provided valuable rewards for the best students another year in a row. This is the company's way to return to the sea a small part of what it receives from it.
The project will continue to be held in the second half of May in primary schools in Split and Omiš, through educational workshops designed for school children of all age groups.
