Despite the weather forecast, which predicted 98 litres of rain per square meter with zero knots of wind, JGL's team has proudly crossed the finish line another year running at the new edition of Fiumanka, a regatta due to which mid-June Rijeka traditionally lives in the spirit of sailing.
The saying goes "fortune favours the brave", so it seems that, instead of rain and dead calm sea, it was fortune that favoured the participants again with predominantly cloudy weather and constant south wind of 15 to 18 knots. No one expected these conditions as they are a rarity in the Bay of Rijeka, which often has dead calm sea.
With good spirits, full sails and commitment, JGL's six-member crew of the Aqua Maris sailboat, led by skipper Mate Poropat, contributed to a remarkable performance - our JGL sailors achieved a remarkable speed of 7-9 nautical miles. They reached the finish line after 2 hours and 31 minutes, and thus placed 17th in the overall ranking. There were more than 200 registered sailboats.
The restless JGL spirit that says, "You can always do better" also marked this event, so the team made room for improvement of results after analysing the route. They said they would also attend Fiumanka next year when it "comes of age" with fun and healthy sporting spirit.
