The educational workshop “No microplastics, no worries” by Aqua Maris was held as part of the second Kostrena Kids’ Outdoor “KaKaO” programme, organised by the Kostrena Municipality Tourist Board and the Kvarner Sports Recreational Society. Due to poor weather conditions, this year’s event could have been renamed the Kostrena Kids’ Indoor, but although (or because) the rain caused everything to be moved to a sports hall, around 300 kids and their parents enjoyed the sports and educational content.
The objective of the project was to offer children various sports, educational and entertainment activities and to show them how to spend their free time in a meaningful and active way, without smartphones or TVs. The Aqua Maris workshops allowed them to learn new things in a fun and interactive way and reminded them of the ecological values which contribute to the quality of life.
Kids had the chance to learn what microplastics are, how each of us can reduce our negative impact on the environment by using natural materials and how to sort waste properly. At JGL’s mini laboratory, lectures were held on the topic of where the numerous plastic items around us end up, how they impact the environment, how they become dangerous for our health and how important it is to use products without microplastics. At the drawing, sewing and design workshop, the youngest children could paint environmentally acceptable canvas bags for repeated use which they took home with them.
