For 33 years now, the Croatian Managers’ & Entrepreneurs’ Association (CROMA) have been awarding the most distinguished members of their community. In 2023, the award in the category of large enterprises was given to Mislav Vučić.
The award was given to JGL’s CEO at the ceremony held in Zagreb on 15 February. Vučić expressed his thoughts on receiving the award:
“Awards like these are a great honour. They not only recognise the individual or team but also acknowledge that our vision and business practices are on the right path. Irrespective of the award highlighting the work of the individual, this is a reflection of teamwork and dedication. That is why I would like to thank the JGL Board of Directors for their trust, my closest associates for sharing the same vision and integrity, and all JGL employees for their courage in facing the uncompromising market competition every day,” said Vučić and added:
“In today’s rapidly changing business environment, it is imperative for managers to have a clear and well-defined strategy, along with a flexible and passionate approach to their work. At JGL, we have demonstrated that even in challenging times, we can achieve remarkable results by maintaining our passion and commitment.”
The Manager of the Year award is given by an independent panel of judges, which included business leaders, members of the CROMA Board of Directors and Management, representatives from academia, media, and the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development. They are joined every year by the previous year’s winners.
The selection criteria include business results, such as profit and loss statement as well as qualitative business indicators like domestic market share, export growth, number of created or protected jobs, physical scope of business, natural growth indicators, etc. Additionally, the management of the company’s social and environmental impacts, and public and social engagement in professional, humanitarian, cultural, sports or other activities are also considered.
“It all comes down to this: who makes up our social value pyramid? Who can you put at the top without reservation? We trust that these are the right people, people with staying power. And you can only stay at the top if you stay true to your values and never back down. Those who are consistent and create sustainable business systems are the real winners. They are the ones who search, learn and travel. They learn about project management, communication, leadership, environmental protection, waste management and renewable sources, run family-owned businesses and create never-before-seen products”, says Prof. Stjepan Orešković, PhD, Chairman of the Awards Panel.
The CROMA award is given in categories of large, medium, small, micro and foreign enterprises, and for the most successful young manager, an exemplary system of corporate governance and CSR, positive social impact, the best-managed innovative project and for life achievement. This year, the CROMA Board of Directors handed out awards in two additional categories: most successful foreign manager in Croatia and most successful start-up.
